The Gift of Christ

 

Eph 4:7  But unto every one of us is given grace according to the measure of the gift of Christ. 

 

         1.     What are the Gifts That God the Father Gives Through His Son Jesus?

a.     Every individual gets a gift

                                               i.     The gift should not make us prideful

1.     Romans 12:3-5 

                                             ii.     Each gift is unique and special

1.     Romans 12:6-8 

                                           iii.     Each gift is for the benefit of our fellow believers

1.     1 Peter 4:10 

b.     It is Christ that gives the gifts

                                               i.     No man can give out these gifts because Christ is the sole head of the Church

1.     Matthew 23:8-10 

c.     Every individual gets a unique portion of the gifts

                                               i.     The gifts are to be profitable for all

1.     1 Corinthians 12:7-11 

                                             ii.     There is no hierarchy to be found in the gifts

1.     1 Corinthians 12:27-31 

                                           iii.     The sum point of all the gifts is a love for one another

1.       1 Corinthians 13:1-2

Ephesians 4:6

One God and Father of All

Eph 4:6  One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all. 

 

          1.     There is One God

a.     There are many things that are called god but only one God

                                               i.     1 Corinthians 8:4-6 

b.     There is only one God, yet there are three persons in the Godhead

                                               i.     1 John 5:7 

           2.     God is Father of All His Children

a.     Paul is writing to believers only because he says in:

                                               i.     Ephesians 4:3 

b.     Later in verse 7 he says:

                                               i.     Ephesians 4:7 

         3.     God the Father is Supreme Above All Things

a.     Even though the Son is Coequal and Coeternal with the Father. He willingly subordinates Himself to the Father

                                               i.     Luke 22:42 

b.     The Spirit submits Himself to the Son and therefore to the Father who is above the Son

                                               i.     The Son sends the Holy Spirit

1.     John 16:7 

                                             ii.     The Holy Spirit does not speak of Himself but reveals what the Son has taught

1.     John 16:13-14 

         4.     God the Father’s Action Sustains All Things

a.     Philippians 2:12-13 

         5.     God the Father Abides in All of His Children

a.     The Church is being built for His habitation

                                               i.     Ephesians 2:20-22 

b.     We are all His dwelling place

                                               i.     John 14:23 

c.     From the unity of the trinity flows the unity of the church, which is a demonstration to the world of the love of God

                                               i.     John 17:20-23

We Are Baptized into Jesus

 

Eph 4:5  One Lord, one faith, one baptism, 

 

            1.     What Kind of Baptism is Paul Speaking of in This Context?

a.     What he is not speaking of

                                               i.     Paul is not speaking of baptismal regeneration

1.     There have been many believers throughout history who were not baptized at all and still went to heaven.

a.     Luke 23:39-43 

2.     Paul didn’t even prioritize baptism in his ministry of church planting

a.     1 Corinthians 1:11-17 

                                             ii.     Paul is not speaking about a particular mode of baptism

1.     Romans 6:1-5 

b.     What he is speaking of

                                               i.     He is speaking of our being baptized (or placed into Christ) which is a work of the Holy Spirit not the pastor

1.     1 Corinthians 12:12-13 

                                               i.     He is speaking of the water baptism that represents our spiritual baptism

1.     Act 2:37-41

             2.     How Does Baptism Unite Us?

a.     This is something that every believer has, no matter what mode of water baptism they practiced.

                                               i.     Galatians 6:13-15 

             3.     What Mode of Baptism Do I See in Scripture?

a.     I, personally, see baptism by immersion, upon a confession of faith taught in the Bible.
