Romans 8:29-30

Romans 8:29-30
God’s Golden Chain of Salvation

Rom 8:29  For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren.
Rom 8:30  Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified.

  1. The Reason God Saves You and Me is Because He Wants Us to be Conformed into the Image of Christ – vs. 29b
    1. Those that have been called out of the world for salvation were called because they are to be made into the likeness of Christ. We are to be His representation on earth.
                                                              i.      John 17:16-19
                                                            ii.      Ephesians 1:4-5
  1. Your Sanctification Was the Reason You Were Foreknown – vs. 29a
    1. Paul is not saying here that God look down through history at what you were going to decide to do with is Son and based His decision to elect you on that faith. You were chosen on absolutely no merit of your own. This is humbling to admit but true to God’s word.
                                                              i.      1 Corinthians 8:3
                                                            ii.      1 Peter 1:2
iii.      God’s foreknowledge of your election is the same as His foreknowledge of His plan of redemption
1.      1 Peter 1:19-20
  1. Your Sanctification Was the Reason You Were Predestined – vs. 29a, 30a
    1. 1 Peter 2:9
  2. Your Sanctification Was the Reason You Were Called – vs. 30b
    1. The call of the Preacher
                                                              i.      Matthew 22:14
                                                            ii.      Matthew 11:28-30
                                                          iii.      John 7:37
                                                          iv.      Romans 10:13-15
    1. The call of the Savior
                                                              i.      John 6:44
                                                            ii.      John 10:3-5
  1. Your Sanctification Was the Reason You Were Justified – vs. 30c
    1. If it is God that justifies and no man, then there is no one that can take it away.
                                                              i.      Romans 8:1
                                                            ii.      Romans 8:33-34
  1. Your Sanctification Was the Reason You Will Be Glorified – vs. 30d
    1. Paul is careful to express the word glorified in past tense to show us that the work of God is already completed. Your eternal destiny is has already been settled. We are to run the race with patience.
                                                              i.      2 Peter 1:10
                                                            ii.      Hebrews 12:1-2

Apostasy Report - The Lies Of Political "Christianity" Today

Please do not take me posting this as a complete endorsement of everything this guys says or does. In fact I would strongly disagree with him on some major points, but I think he brings up some interesting points about CT. They are a leftist magazine with a dying viewership because of deeply partisan and bias views. There is nothing wrong with being that way the problem is pretending that you are not. Honesty would be that some one be forthright about their political bias.

  1. “And We Know”
    1. Paul is expressing his incredible confidence here in verse 28, not based on mystical experiences or feeling, but on the firm foundation of God’s Word. So, what is it that gives Paul such confidence to say these words?

Is Christianity today an unbiased reliable news source? I guess if you think political opinion pieces are absolute truth. This is interesting...

John 20:11-18

John 20:11-18
Jesus Comes to Mary Magdalene

Joh 20:11  But Mary stood without at the sepulchre weeping: and as she wept, she stooped down, and looked into the sepulchre,
Joh 20:12  And seeth two angels in white sitting, the one at the head, and the other at the feet, where the body of Jesus had lain.
Joh 20:13  And they say unto her, Woman, why weepest thou? She saith unto them, Because they have taken away my Lord, and I know not where they have laid him.
Joh 20:14  And when she had thus said, she turned herself back, and saw Jesus standing, and knew not that it was Jesus.
Joh 20:15  Jesus saith unto her, Woman, why weepest thou? whom seekest thou? She, supposing him to be the gardener, saith unto him, Sir, if thou have borne him hence, tell me where thou hast laid him, and I will take him away.
Joh 20:16  Jesus saith unto her, Mary. She turned herself, and saith unto him, Rabboni; which is to say, Master.
Joh 20:17  Jesus saith unto her, Touch me not; for I am not yet ascended to my Father: but go to my brethren, and say unto them, I ascend unto my Father, and your Father; and to my God, and your God.
Joh 20:18  Mary Magdalene came and told the disciples that she had seen the Lord, and that he had spoken these things unto her.

  1. Often in Hard Times We End Up Looking for Jesus in All the Wrong Places – vs. 11-13
    1. Mary was looking for a body instead of a risen Savior – often Jesus seems far away and out of touch with what is going on right now in our lives.
                                                              i.      Jesus is not just an important historical figure He lives right now
1.      Matthew 16:21-23
  1. Finding Jesus is Often as Easy as Turning Around – vs. 14
    1. Because Mary was looking for a body she was unaware that Christ was already with her – Just like Mary we miss out on the precious relationship with Christ that is available to us because we are looking to connect with Christ outside of ways He has designed for us.
                                                              i.      Acts 2:38
  1. Jesus Wants to Help Us but We Try to Do it On Our Own – vs. 15
    1. Mary wanted to carry the body away on her own which would have been impossible for a woman alone to do – Just like Mary it is impossible to improve our condition without God’s intervention.
                                                              i.      Ephesians 2:8-10
  1. Jesus Calls Us by Name – vs. 16a
    1. All Jesus had to do was say her name and she knew instantly who He was – Just like Mary we learn the voice of the Shepherd by His personal call to us.
                                                              i.      Isaiah 43:1-2
  1. Jesus Wants us to Surrender to His Lordship. – vs. 16b

  1. Jesus is Never Going to Leave Us
    1. ‘Don’t touch me’ sound harsh in English but really the Greek expression is more like “You don’t have to cling to me, I am never going to leave you) – vs. 17-18
                                                              i.      Hebrews 13:5-6
                                                            ii.      1 Corinthians 15:14-19

Romans 8:26-27

Romans 8:26-27
The Holy Spirit Intercedes for Us

Rom 8:26  Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.
Rom 8:27  And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God.

       1.      The Holy Spirit Holds Us When We are Weak – vs. 26a
a.       The verb ‘help’ that most translations use, seems terribly passive compared to the Greek word from which it is translated. Another way it could be translated is to ‘take hold of something or someone.’
                                                              i.      The Greek work for help is in the present tense which means that the ministry that the Holy Spirit is a continual one that does not end.
1.      Deuteronomy 31:6
ii.      The Greek word for help is also in the active voice which means it is a dynamic ministry not a passive one that simply sits back and observes.
1.      2 Corinthians 12:9-10
iii.      Finally, this word is in the indicative mood which mean that it is a matter of fact or an absolute reality. The help that the Holy Spirit gives is more permanent than the rocks and mountains we see around us.
1.      Hebrews 13:5-6
       2.      More Often than not, We Don’t Even Know What to Properly Pray for – vs. 26b
a.       James 4:3
       3.      The Holy Spirit Makes Intercession for Us – vs 26c
a.       With groaning that cannot be put into words
                                                              i.      The ministry of intercession is a triune one. In which, all the Godhead is involved.
1.      Galatians 4:6
ii.      It is not only the Holy Spirit that intercedes for us but also Jesus Christ.

1.      Romans 8:34
2.      1 John 2:1-2
3.      Hebrews 7:23-25
4.      John 17:9
       4.      God Knows Intimately the Heart of the Believer – vs. 27a
a.       Matthews 6:7-8
       5.      God Knows Intimately the Mind of the Holy Spirit – vs. 27b
a.       The intimacy of the trinity should give you great comfort as you pray knowing that your prayers go directly to God.
                                                              i.      Philippians 4:6-7
       6.      The Holy Spirit Fulfills the Will of God by Making Intercession for the Believer – vs. 27c
a.       It may be surprising upon first read how Paul flips this relationship over on its head. It would seem the flow of his argument should continue to follow the work of the Holy Spirit, but I think that Paul changes this abruptly in order to emphasize the point that the ministry of intercession is a triune one that involves the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

                                                              i.      John 14:23-27
