Psalm 8
God our Lord

Psa 8:1  To the chief Musician upon Gittith, A Psalm of David. O LORD our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth! who hast set thy glory above the heavens. 
Psa 8:2  Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings hast thou ordained strength because of thine enemies, that thou mightest still the enemy and the avenger. 
Psa 8:3  When I consider thy heavens, the work of thy fingers, the moon and the stars, which thou hast ordained; 
Psa 8:4  What is man, that thou art mindful of him? and the son of man, that thou visitest him? 
Psa 8:5  For thou hast made him a little lower than the angels, and hast crowned him with glory and honour. 
Psa 8:6  Thou madest him to have dominion over the works of thy hands; thou hast put all things under his feet: 
Psa 8:7  All sheep and oxen, yea, and the beasts of the field; 
Psa 8:8  The fowl of the air, and the fish of the sea, and whatsoever passeth through the paths of the seas. 
Psa 8:9  O LORD our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth! 

  1. How Great is the Name of Yahweh, He is our Master. – vs. 1-8
    1. God is bigger than the universe. – vs. 1b
    2. God uses children (or the weak things in this world) to defeat the greatest enemy of all time (Satan). – vs. 2
                                                               i.      This is the great cosmic battle that all of history records.
1.      2 Corinthians 12:9-10 
    1. We serve the mighty God that has created the great clock that we call the universe. – vs. 3
    2. What is the value of man in the hugeness of the cosmic universe? – vs. 4
                                                               i.      God visits man – this is a prophecy of the coming Messiah who is God reveal through the Word and word.
1.      This is Jesus’ mission statement.
a.       Luke 4:18-19
    1. God values you infinitely. There is no human that is more valuable than another. All are of equal value to God. He has given glory and honor to all not just royalty. – vs. 5
    2. Because God love humans infinitely He gives them dominion over all the animals. – vs. 6
      1. Humans are given the right of privileged to rule over all these: - vs. 7-8
1.      Large land animals
2.      Small land animals
3.      Animals that have flight
4.      Animals that live in the ocean
a.       Paths of the sea – this is a reference to what science has figured out thousands of years after God put it in the Bible. - Matthew Fontaine Maury

    1. God Allows the Wicked to destroy themselves in the following ways:
                                                               i.      They travail (ingeniously work to pervert things) and produce iniquity (empty destruction) – vs. 14a
                                                             ii.      Hath conceived (laboriously carried something) mischief (with great effort achieved nothing) – vs. 14b
                                                            iii.      Brought forth (like birthing a child) falsehood (a sham) – vs. 14c
                                                           iv.      They dig a pit and fall into it. – vs. 15
                                                             v.      The pain they deal out comes around to harm them. – vs. 16

A Prayer for Divine Justice

  1. David Prays for Divine Justice for His Enemy. – vs. 1-2*
    1. David trusts in the divine sovereignty of God, knowing that God will work everything out for his good. – vs. 1a*
