Romans 9:30-33


Romans 9:30-33
Whosoever Believeth in Him Shall Not Be Ashamed

Rom 9:30  What shall we say then? That the Gentiles, which followed not after righteousness, have attained to righteousness, even the righteousness which is of faith. 
Rom 9:31  But Israel, which followed after the law of righteousness, hath not attained to the law of righteousness. 
Rom 9:32  Wherefore? Because they sought it not by faith, but as it were by the works of the law. For they stumbled at that stumblingstone; 
Rom 9:33  As it is written, Behold, I lay in Sion a stumblingstone and rock of offence: and whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed. 

       1.      How Wonderful it is that the Heathen have been Given Righteousness! – vs. 30
a.       The Gentiles who have not pursued righteousness have been given righteousness because of the mercy of God.
                                                              i.      Romans 4:11-16 
b.      The gift of righteousness to the Gentiles is proof of God’s mercy and forgiveness. It proves beyond a shadow of doubt that salvation is by faith alone.
                                                              i.      Romans 5:6-11 
       2.      Israel Pursued Morality and Ended Up Without it. – vs. 31
a.       A pursuit of holiness apart from Christ is a futile affair. Man is completely unable to reform himself. Israel’s self-righteousness became their downfall.
                                                              i.      Paul talks about this in Romans chapter 7
1.      Romans 7:7-9 
                                                            ii.      His desire to self-reform drives him to this frustration at the end of the chapter.

                                                          iii.      The answer to this frustration is given in the beginning of Romans chapter 8
1.      Romans 8:1-4 
        3.      Because Israel Attempted to Self-Reform Apart from Christ, They Became Offended by the                 Message of the Gospel. – vs. 32
a.       Israel rejected salvation by faith alone
                                                              i.      1 Corinthians 1:21-25 
b.      Because of Israel’s rejection of salvation by faith alone they rejected the Rock of their Salvation and the true cure to their sin nature.
                                                              i.      Acts 4:10-12 
        4.      The Rejection of the Gospel by Israel is Predicted in the Old Testament. – vs. 33

b.      Psalm 118:22-26
