Romans 5:3-5

Romans 5:3-5
Hope Maketh Not Ashamed!
Rom 5:3  And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience;
Rom 5:4  And patience, experience; and experience, hope:
Rom 5:5  And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.

1.      Those that are in Christ Can Glory in the Trials They Experience – vs. 3-4*
a.       Because of our justification and benefits that we enjoy in Christ we have hope for the future. We need not live in fear of sorrow or pain.
                                                              i.      Romans 5:1-2
                                                            ii.      2 Timothy 4:5-8
b.      Because of Christ you can glory in trials.
                                                              i.      Trials produce endurance – We need not fear what man can do to us because God works through every difficulty to produce in us a spiritual strength that lasts.
1.      James 1:2-4
2.      1 Peter 1:3-9
ii.      Endurance produces character – character is the mark of a true man of God. This cannot be produced without trials, that build strength.
1.      2 Corinthians 12:9-10
iii.      Character produces confidence (hope) – as we endure the trials, that God has before ordained for us, we see the deliverance that He provides, and this builds a confidence in the coming hope of glory in eternity.
1.      James 1:12
2.      1 Peter 4:12-14
2.      There is No Shame in Placing Your Trust in Christ – vs. 5*
a.       God pours His love into our hearts through the work of the Holy Spirit – this is the definition of sanctification or the process by which we become like Christ.
                                                              i.      2 Timothy 1:7-10
ii.      We can be confident in our hope in Christ because nothing is an accident; it is all working together for the purpose that God has planned for our life. He never lets go of His own!

Romans 5:1-2

Romans 5:1-2
“Coram Deo”

Rom 5:1  Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:
Rom 5:2  By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.

1.      The Benefits of Being In Christ By Faith: - vs. 1-2*
                                                              i.      A believer in Christ does not stand on the outside looking in on the benefits of salvation, they are already possessed by them. All these rewards are listed in past tense. Too often these benefits are dangled before the believer in hopes that they will reform the flesh. The power to reform the flesh does not lie within you, but in the knowledge of your position in Christ and your hope in His completed work.
1.      Job 9:33; 1 John 2:1-2; Romans 3:24-25
b.      You are justified
                                                              i.      Our righteousness is complete in the work of Christ on the cross
1.      Galatians 2:16
c.       You have peace with God
                                                              i.      No longer are we at war with God or His enemy we are now invited into His family which is the Church
1.      Ephesians 2:11-22
d.      You have access to God
                                                              i.      A believer does not hope to be in the presence of God, but is continually in His presence. Everything we do should be in worship to God because in Christ we continually live in the presence of God (Coram Deo)
1.      Ephesians 3:11-12; Hebrews 4:16
e.       You stand in grace
                                                              i.      The verb tense is clear here. We do not hope to stand in grace someday, but in fact currently stand before God, sinless. This is because we are clothed in the righteousness of Christ
1.      Hebrews 7:25; Hebrews 10:19-25
f.        You have a profound hope and joy in the glory of God
                                                              i.      As we are exposed to the glory of the nature of God we are change into His likeness.
1.      2 Corinthians 3:14-18

This is really informative...

Romans 5:2 "Explaining the Benefits, Part 2" - 10/18/2017

Again, wow! This is awesome. Glory Hallelujah what a Savior!

Romans 5:1 "Explaining the Benefits, Part 1" - 10/11/2017

This is so important and such a beautiful exposition of the Gospel. Why is this so hard for people to accept? I see so much suffering out there because people refuse the love of God given to us through His Son Jesus Christ our Lord. If you have time please watch this.

Romans 4:18-25

Romans 4:18-25
Abraham’s Faith in Jesus Made Him Righteous

Rom 4:18  Who against hope believed in hope, that he might become the father of many nations, according to that which was spoken, So shall thy seed be.
Rom 4:19  And being not weak in faith, he considered not his own body now dead, when he was about an hundred years old, neither yet the deadness of Sara's womb:
Rom 4:20  He staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in faith, giving glory to God;
Rom 4:21  And being fully persuaded that, what he had promised, he was able also to perform.
Rom 4:22  And therefore it was imputed to him for righteousness.
Rom 4:23  Now it was not written for his sake alone, that it was imputed to him;
Rom 4:24  But for us also, to whom it shall be imputed, if we believe on him that raised up Jesus our Lord from the dead;
Rom 4:25  Who was delivered for our offences, and was raised again for our justification.

  1. Christ Demonstrates His Power Through His Work in Abraham’s Faith. – vs. 18-21*
    1. The impossible is made possible, demonstrating what God can do through an ordinary man. If God could perform such a work in Abraham’s life through genuine faith how much more could be accomplished through you?
                                                              i.      True Faith Hopes - Abraham believed God’s Word in spite of the impossibility of it. – vs. 18*
1.      Hebrews 11:1
2.      What was the original promise of God? The promise what that Abraham’s seed would inherit a specific land. This is still yet to be fulfilled in the Millennial Kingdom. In other words we still look forward to the coming Messiah and His complete defeat of evil.
a.       Genesis 17:5-8
b.      Psalm 2:6-8
    1. True Faith is Strong – Abraham ignored the distractions that would make him doubt God’s Word. – vs. 19*
                                                              i.      Abraham could have examined his lifeless body and concluded that God’s promise to him having a son would be impossible.
1.      Hebrews 12:1
    1. True Faith Endures – Abraham did not doubt the Word of God and thus brought glory to God. – vs. 20*
                                                              i.      Abraham could have wavered in his confidence in God, yet he remained steadfast in his resolve.
1.      2 Timothy 2:3-4
    1. True Faith Trusts Absolutely – Abraham acted on his belief in God’s Word. – vs. 21*
                                                              i.      Abraham lived his life in the confidence that God would use his efforts for God’s glory and wouldn’t, in the end, be utterly worthless.
1.      Hebrews 11:13
    1. What about Hagar? –  This might be where most of us would add in Abraham’s failures, of which there are many, but instead God chooses to forget them. All of us have our ‘Hagars’ (an attempt to achieve God’s will though worldly means) but God does not remember them because they are covered under the blood.
                                                              i.      Psalm 103:10-13
  1. Righteousness was Imputed on Abraham because of His Faith – vs. 22-25*
    1. Because of Abraham’s faith, he was ‘revalued,’ and was given Christ’s righteousness not his own - Webster’s Dictionary definition of imputed:to attribute (righteousness, guilt, etc.) to a person or persons vicariously; ascribe as derived from another.” – vs. 22*
                                                              i.      Genesis 15:6
    1. This imputation is not just for Abraham. It is for us as well – vs. 23*
                                                              i.      Romans 10:9-10
    1. If we believe on the one that brought Christ back to life, we can have the same righteousness imputed on us. – vs. 24*
                                                              i.      The just like it was beyond Abraham’s power to make a son it is beyond our power to make ourselves alive to faith again. Like Abraham we must rely on an outside source of strength through faith.
1.      John 3:16-18
    1. God yielded up His Son to pay for our sin and brought Him back to life to enable our justification (declaration of our innocence before God). – vs. 25*
                                                              i.      2 Corinthians 5:21
                                                            ii.      Isaiah 53:1-6

Paul Washer - Loving God

This is helpful...

Romans 4:13-17

Romans 4:13-17
Our Father Abraham

Rom 4:13  For the promise, that he should be the heir of the world, was not to Abraham, or to his seed, through the law, but through the righteousness of faith.
Rom 4:14  For if they which are of the law be heirs, faith is made void, and the promise made of none effect:
Rom 4:15  Because the law worketh wrath: for where no law is, there is no transgression.
Rom 4:16  Therefore it is of faith, that it might be by grace; to the end the promise might be sure to all the seed; not to that only which is of the law, but to that also which is of the faith of Abraham; who is the father of us all,
Rom 4:17  (As it is written, I have made thee a father of many nations,) before him whom he believed, even God, who quickeneth the dead, and calleth those things which be not as though they were.

  1. If Those that Teach Morality is Enough to Please God, Are Right; Then There is No Room For Faith. – vs. 14*

                                                              i.      Titus 3:4-8
