Ephesians 1:19-20

You Who Were Wrought in Christ

 

Eph 1:19  And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power, 

Eph 1:20  Which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places, 

        1.       An Incredible Gift of Power Has Been Given to All Those that Have Faith in Christ – vs. 19a

a.       The Gospel has the power to save us from sin

                                                              i.      Romans 1:16 

b.      The gospel has power to save because of the work of the Holy Spirit

                                                              i.      1 Thessalonians 1:5 

c.       Even our labor for Christ is a work of grace

                                                              i.      Colossians 1:29 

d.      The Holy Spirit also has the power to preserve our salvation

                                                              i.      Philippians 1:6 

         2.       Incredible Energy Comes to the Believer by God’s Work Within Them – vs. 19b

a.       The book of Ephesians gives us overwhelming evidence of God’s faithful work in our salvation

Eph 1:18  The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints, 

           ·         Three Essentials Pray for Our Fellow Believers

          1.      A Greater Understanding of the Gospel

a.       Before you were saved you were Blinded to the truth

                                                              i.      Ephesians 4:17-19 

b.      Those that are Blinded by this world embrace foolish things

                                                              i.      Romans 1:21-23 

c.       Because of the judicial Blindness the world is experiencing, they are given over to reprobation

                                                              i.      Romans 1:28 

           2.      To Know the Purpose of Their Calling

a.       Our Calling give us true enlightenment

                                                              i.      1 Corinthians 1:22-24

b.      Our Calling is blessed by the faithfulness of God

                                                              i.      1 Corinthians 1:9 

c.       Our Calling includes the gift of eternity

                                                              i.      1 Timothy 6:12 

d.      Our Calling is to Glory

                                                              i.      1 Thessalonians 2:12 

e.       Our Calling is a faithful work of God

                                                              i.      1 Thessalonians 5:24 

           3.      To Experience the Glory of Their Fellowship with the Church

a.       The Church is purchased by the blood of Christ

                                                              i.      Acts 20:28 

b.      The Church is God’s most prized possession

Revelation in the Knowledge of Him

Eph 1:17  That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him: 

          1.      Who Do We Petition When We Pray?

a.       The God of our Lord Jesus Christ

                                                              i.      If Jesus was God, why did he have to pray?

1.      Jesus took time to pray when He faced the anger of others

a.       Luke 6:11-12 

2.      Jesus took time to pray when crowds followed Him

a.       Matthew 14:22-23 

3.      Jesus took time to pray after tending to the needs of others

a.       Luke 5:15-16 

4.      Jesus took time to pray in times of great sorrow

a.       Matthew 26:36-38 

b.      The Father of Glory

                                                              i.      God is the origin of light - James 1:17 

                                                            ii.      God is the origin of life - Hebrews 12:9 

                                                          iii.      God is the eternal Father - Isaiah 9:6 

          2.      What Do We Petition When We Pray?

a.       We are to petition the Father for two works of the Holy Spirit in the life of a fellow believer

                                                              i.      A Spirit of Wisdom

1.      The filling of the Holy Spirit produces a greater knowledge of God

a.       Colossians 1:9-10 

                                                            ii.      A Spirit of Revelation

1.      A greater filling of the Holy Spirit enables us to better understand His revelation: the Scriptures

a.       Ephesians 3:3-5 

                                                          iii.      Which produces a knowledge of God

1.      This is not simply knowing about God

a.       The devils know a lot about God

                                                                                                                                      i.      Mark 1:23-24 

b.      Even the unsaved can know a lot about God

                                                                                                                                      i.      Romans 1:21 

c.       Rather this is an experiential fellowship with God

                                                                                                                                      i.      1 John 1:1-4
