Romans 12:1

Romans 12:1

Will You Present Your Body as a Living Sacrifice?

Rom 12:1  I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.

        1.      I Beseech You Therefore

a.       Paul is pleading with them to make a conscious, daily choice to give their lives to God and His service

                                                              i.      Luke 9:23-24

                                                            ii.      1 Peter 2:11-12

         2.      Brethren

a.       This choice is only for believers. Those that are not born again do not seek righteousness.

                                                              i.      Romans 3:10-12

         3.      By the Mercies of God

a.       This choice is based on the premise that you understand what Paul has been teaching about the bountiful mercy and forgiveness of God in the previous part of the book of Romans.

                                                              i.      God commended His love to you

1.      Romans 5:8

                                                            ii.      God cleanses your conscience

1.      Romans 8:1

iii.      God adopts you into His family

1.      Romans 8:15

iv.      For these reasons, and much more, let us trust him in the same fashion that Paul does.

1.      2 Timothy 1:12

         4.      That Ye Present Your Bodies

a.       This is not a choice that you can make for someone else or that someone else can make for you. Only you can choose to yield yourself to the will of the Master.

                                                              i.      Romans 6:11-13

         5.      A Living Sacrifice

a.       We do not throw ourselves off a cliff for God. We sacrifice our selves to God by following the example of our Savior

                                                              i.      Ephesians 5:2

                                                            ii.      Psalm 110:1-3

         6.      Holy

a.       We must be consecrated and purified by the blood of the Lamb in order to be dedicated to the service of God.

                                                              i.      1Peter 1:15-16

         7.      Acceptable unto God

a.       God does have a standard by which we must live. You cannot claim to be a follower of Christ and live in the same fashion as the world.

                                                              i.      James 1:27

                                                            ii.      1 John 5:3

        8.      Which is Your Reasonable Service

a.       We do not worship God with blind obedience. He carefully reveals Himself to us so that we may have the confidence to know that He will keep that which we have committed to Him much better than we could ever.

                                                              i.      John 4:19-24

Luke 2:11-14

Luke 2:11-14

Good Will Toward Men

Luk 2:8  And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night.

Luk 2:9  And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid.

Luk 2:10  And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.

Luk 2:11  For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.

Luk 2:12  And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.

Luk 2:13  And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying,

Luk 2:14  Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.

1.      Glory to God in the Highest

a.       We must follow the example of the angels and make giving God all the glory, the ultimate priority of our lives.

                                                                   i.      We give God the glory when we make Him:

1.      Our Governor

a.       Isaiah 9:6-7

2.      Our Wonder

a.       1 Timothy 3:16

3.      Our Counselor

5.      Our Everlasting Father

a.       Micah 5:2

6.      Our Prince of Peace

a.       Micah 4:1-3

2.      And on Earth Peace

a.       When we make giving God all the glory the first priority in our lives, we receive true and lasting peace that cannot be taken away.

                                                                   i.      World peace does not start on the macro level, it starts with the individual. The world is changed not by grand movements and revolutions but by each and every heart surrendered to Christ the King.

1.      Peace with God comes by faith

a.       Romans 15:13

2.      Peace with God come through trust

a.       Philippians 4:6-7

3.      Good Will Toward Men

a.       As we receive the peace that only God can give, we are filled with a true desire of ‘good will toward men.’

                                                                   i.      We can only fix our end of every relationship in our lives. We cannot make others do the right thing.

1.      Romans 12:18

ii.      When we surrender our live to the King, He enables us to let go of the things that hold us back from a better relationship with others.
