Be Filled with the Holy Spirit!

 

Eph 5:18  And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit; 

 

              1.     Do Not Be Filled with Wine

a.     Is alcohol forbidden in the Bible?

                                               i.         Wine can be used in times of celebration - Psalm 104:15 

                                             ii.         Wine can be used in times of great sorrow - Proverbs 31:6 

                                           iii.         Wine can be used in times of extreme poverty - Proverbs 31:7 

                                            iv.         Wine can be used medicinally - 1 Timothy 5:23 

                                             v.         Jesus turned water into wine - John 2:9-10 

b.     Is excess forbidden in the Bible?

                                               i.         Drunkenness leads to error - Isaiah 28:7-8 

                                             ii.         Drunkenness leads to poverty - Proverbs 23:19-21 

                                           iii.         Drunkenness leads to sorrow - Proverbs 23:29-30 

                                            iv.         Drunkenness leads to anger - Proverbs 20:1

Eph 5:15  See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise, 

Eph 5:16  Redeeming the time, because the days are evil. 

Eph 5:17  Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is.
