Ephesians 6:13

Stand in the Face of Evil

Eph 6:13  Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. 

 

          1.     Continue to Put on the Whole Armor of God

a.     A good hoplite

                                               i.     Hears the call of his Commander - Psalm 50:5 

                                             ii.     Pledges allegiance to his Commander - Luke 9:23-24 

                                           iii.     Arms himself with the appropriate armor

1.     Romans 13:12; 2 Corinthians 6:7 

                                            iv.     Is faithful to the army that he serves with - Hebrews 10:23-25 

                                             v.     Remembers that he is a contributor to that army - 1 Corinthians 12:12-14 

                                            vi.     Will not desert in the hard times - 2 Timothy 4:5-11 

                                          vii.     Remembers that quitting is not an option - 2 Peter 2:21; Hebrews 10:38 

                                        viii.     Remembers that his Commander will not forsake him - Hebrews 13:5-6 

                                            ix.     Remembers that his Commander loves him to the end - John 13:1 

                                             x.     Remembers to give encouragement to his fellow soldiers

1.     Luke 22:31-32 

           2.     So That You Can Stand in the Evil Day

a.     Some of you may feel like Jacob - Genesis 47:9 

b.     Because we live in a hostile world - 1 John 5:19 

          3.     Doing all to Continue to Stand, Stand Therefore!

a.     It is only the saved that can make a stand - Romans 5:1-2 

b.     Stand against an alliance with the darkness - James 4:4 

c.     Stand without flinching in the face of darkness - 1 John 1:5-7 

d.     Stand over a murdered darkness within - Romans 8:13 

e.     Stand firm in the truth - 2 Peter 1:12 

f.      Stand with the faithful

                                               i.     Philippians 1:7; Philippians 1:27

Ephesians 6:12

We Wrestle Not Against Flesh and Blood

Eph 6:12  For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. 

         1.     We Are in a War:

a.      Not against our fellow humans

                                               i.     Our fellow humans are enslaved by a horrible master

1.     Ephesians 2:1-3 

                                             ii.     We want to see our fellow humans set free - Colossians 1:13-14 

                                            iii.     We are in a spiritual war - 2 Corinthians 10:3-5 

                                            iv.     Are you prepared for the fight? - 1 Corinthians 9:24-27 

                                              v.     Do not be afraid of human powers

1.     Isaiah 40:6-8; Matthew 10:28 

                                            vi.     Even in times of a physical war, the battle still belongs to God

1.     2 Chronicles 20:15 

                                           vii.     Our greatest weapon is the written Word of God - Psalm 56:4 

b.     Against Principalities

                                               i.     Everything belongs to Jesus - Colossians 1:15-17 

                                             ii.     Jesus is going to put everything under His Church - Ephesians 1:20-23 

                                            iii.     Do not place your faith in human rulers - Psalm 146:3 

                                            iv.     Satan is granted temporary jurisdiction over nations - Luke 4:5-6 

                                              v.     Satan is granted temporary jurisdiction over local areas - Revelation 2:13 

                                            vi.     There is a hierarchy in the kingdom of darkness - Luke 11:17-20 

c.      Against Powers

1.     God controls government powers - Romans 13:1-2 

                                             ii.     Yet Satan can use nations for his purpose, when they grant him control

1.     Daniel 10:13 

d.     Against the Rulers of the Darkness of this World

                                               i.     Revelation 13:4 

e.      Against Spiritual Wickedness in High Places

                                               i.     Satan can be granted power in the realms of religious authority

1.     2 Chronicles 11:15 

                                             ii.     Do not forget Who’s servant you are - Romans 6:15-18 

                                            iii.     Do not forget that Satan cannot hurt you - Isaiah 54:17 

                                            iv.     Do not forget that our victory is already secured - Matthew 16:17-18 

                                              v.     Do not be afraid - 2 Timothy 1:7 

                                            vi.     Do not forget that nothing can take you out of the love of God

Eph 6:11  Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. 

          1.     Put on the Whole Armor of God

a.      Put on Jesus - Romans 13:14 

b.     Put on the new man - Ephesians 4:24 

c.      Put on the Word of Truth - 2 Corinthians 6:7 

          2.     So That You Can Stand

a.      Revelation 2:25     

          3.     Against the Wiles of the Devil

a.      Who Satan is? - John 8:44 

b.     What did Satan do? - Genesis 3:1-5   

c.      Where was Satan sent to? - Revelation 12:7-11 

d.     When did Satan fall? - Isaiah 14:12-15 

e.      How is Satan planning to win?

                                               i.     Satan rules over wicked nations - Ezekiel 28:1-10 

                                             ii.     Satan blinds the unsaved - 2 Corinthians 4:3-4 

                                            iii.     Satan enslaves the unsaved - Ephesians 2:1-3 

                                            iv.     Satan entraps unprepared spiritual leaders - 1 Timothy 3:6-7 

                                              v.     Satan deceives gullible political leaders so that he can attack nations

                                            vi.     Satan provides an example for his false prophets to follow

                                           vii.     Satan equips false teachers with his doctrines - 1 Timothy 4:1 

                                         viii.     Satan tempted Jesus - Matthew 4:1-4 

f.      Who then can defeat Satan?

                                               i.     Jesus defeated him on the cross - John 19:30 

                                             ii.     Jesus rebukes him - Zechariah 3:1-2 

                                            iii.     Jesus delivers us from his slavery - Hebrews 2:14-15 

                                            iv.     Jesus fills us with power - 1 John 4:4 

                                              v.     Jesus provides us with spiritual leaders - Ephesians 4:11,14 

                                            vi.     Jesus gives us the ability to resist him - James 4:7 

                                           vii.     Jesus keeps us vigilant - 1 Peter 5:8 

                                         viii.     Jesus is going to use us to claim the ultimate victory - Romans 16:20

Be Strong in the Lord!

Eph 6:10  Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. 

            1.     In Conclusion

a.      Paul is going to conclude his book with a call to battle!

                                               i.     Fighting in a war requires focus - 2 Timothy 2:3-4 

                                             ii.     Fighting in a war requires discipline - 1 Corinthians 16:13 

                                            iii.     Fighting a war requires sacrifice - Romans 12:1-2 

                                            iv.     Fighting in a war requires commitment - Mark 8:34-35 

                                              v.     Fighting in a war requires fortitude

1.     Daniel was attacked - Daniel 10:13 

2.     Angels were attacked - Jude 1:9 

3.     The Apostle Paul was attacked - 1 Thessalonians 2:18 

4.     The Apostle Peter was attacked - Luke 22:31-32 

5.     The Church is under attack

a.      Acts 20:28-30; 2 Corinthians 2:11 

6.     Jesus was attacked - Luke 4:1-2 

7.     You will be attacked - 1 Peter 5:8 

                                            vi.     Fighting in a war requires following a good Captain

1.     Psalm 24:8 

           2.     My Brethren

a.      Choose whom you will serve this day

                                               i.     It is only the Brethren who are called - Ephesians 4:1 

                                             ii.     It is only the Brethren who receive the faith to overcome

1.     Romans 4:20-25 

                                            iii.     It is only the Brethren who receive the grace to persevere - 2 Timothy 2:1 

                                            iv.     Therefore, call on the name of the Lord Jesus and join with us your brothers - Romans 10:9-10    

            3.     Be Strong in the Lord

a.      The Strength Paul is speaking of is not physical - Ephesians 3:16 

b.     The Strength Paul is speaking of is not material - Philippians 4:11-13 

c.      The Strength Paul is speaking of is not meant to serve your selfish gain

                                               i.     1 Timothy 1:12 

d.     The Strength Paul is speaking will never fail you - 2 Timothy 4:17 

e.      The Strength that Paul is speaking of, is only a call away - Psalm 138:3 

          4.     Be Strong in the Power of God’s Might

a.      God’s Power gives us courage - Joshua 1:9 

b.     God’s Power sustains us - Joshua 15:5
