Ephesians 6.17a

Put On the Helmet of Salvation!

 

Eph 6:17  And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God: 

          1.     What Are We Saved From?

a.     Everyone is in trouble - Romans 3:23 

b.     The punishment is inescapable - Romans 6:23 

c.     The offer is universal - Romans 10:9-10 

          2.     What Are We Saved For?

a.     You were saved to be awake - 1 Thessalonians 5:5-9 

b.     You were saved to escape the wrath to come - 1 Thessalonians 1:10 

c.     You were saved to look forward to the second coming of Jesus

                                               i.     Hebrews 9:28; Lamentations 3:26 

d.     You were saved to have a hope of eternal life - Titus 3:7 

e.     You were saved to not be weary in well doing - Galatians 6:9 

f.      You were saved from ignorance - 2 Peter 3:4-9 

g.     You were saved so you could do good for others - Romans 13:10-12 

h.     You were saved so you could endure - Matthew 24:13-14 

i.      You were saved for an eternal purpose - 2 Corinthians 4:14-18 

j.      You were saved so that you would be diligent - Hebrews 6:9-12 

k.     You were saved to run - Hebrews 12:1-2 

l.      You were saved to be a soldier - 2 Timothy 2:3 

m.   You were saved to be patient - James 5:7-8 

n.     You were saved to show abstinence - Titus 2:12-13 

o.     You were saved to have peace - John 16:33 

p.     You were saved to be completed - Philippians 1:6 

q.     You were saved so you could be unafraid of the enemy - Psalm 27:3 

r.      You were saved to gird up the loins of your mind - 1 Peter 1:13 

s.      You were saved by grace alone - 2 Thessalonians 2:13-14 

t.      You were saved to look up, because your redemption draws nigh

Take Up the Shield of Faith!

 

Eph 6:16  Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. 

              1.     Also Take Up the Shield of Faith

a.      What is Faith?

                                               i.     Faith is the evidence of things not seen - Hebrews 11:1 

                                             ii.     Faith is a belief that there is a God and that God is good

1.     Hebrews 11:6 

                                            iii.     Faith is how the righteousness of God is revealed - Romans 1:17 

                                            iv.     Faith is how we escape condemnation - John 3:18 

                                              v.     Faith is how you pledged allegiance to your Commander

1.     Ephesians 1:13-14 

                                            vi.     Faith is how your Commander lives within you - Ephesians 3:17 

                                           vii.     Faith is how you have access to your Commander

1.     Ephesians 3:12 

                                         viii.     Faith is the victory

1.     Hebrews 11:33-34; 1 John 5:4 

                                            ix.     Faith is a shield - Psalm 84:11-12 

               2.     With the Shield of Faith, You Can Quench the Firey Darts of the Wicked One

a.      How is Faith used as a defensive tool?

                                               i.     All temptation is rooted in doubt, and the word of God is the answer to the attacks of Satan

1.     Matthew 4:3-4; Proverbs 30:5; Psalm 18:30 

                                             ii.     Jesus longs to tend to your needs when you struggle with temptation

1.     Hebrews 2:17-18 

                                            iii.     Jesus rebukes Satan - Zechariah 3:1-2 

                                            iv.     Jesus gives you His Word, to ward off the fiery darts of the Enemy. Maybe you have struggled with one or more of the following temptations:

1.     Anger - Romans 12:19 

2.     Greed - Hebrews 13:5-6 

3.     Doubt in the goodness of God - James 1:17 

4.     Anxiety - Psalm 56:3-4 

5.     Pride - 1 Corinthians 3:21-23 

6.     Love of the world - 1 John 2:15-17
