Romans 5:1-2

Romans 5:1-2
“Coram Deo”

Rom 5:1  Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:
Rom 5:2  By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.

1.      The Benefits of Being In Christ By Faith: - vs. 1-2*
                                                              i.      A believer in Christ does not stand on the outside looking in on the benefits of salvation, they are already possessed by them. All these rewards are listed in past tense. Too often these benefits are dangled before the believer in hopes that they will reform the flesh. The power to reform the flesh does not lie within you, but in the knowledge of your position in Christ and your hope in His completed work.
1.      Job 9:33; 1 John 2:1-2; Romans 3:24-25
b.      You are justified
                                                              i.      Our righteousness is complete in the work of Christ on the cross
1.      Galatians 2:16
c.       You have peace with God
                                                              i.      No longer are we at war with God or His enemy we are now invited into His family which is the Church
1.      Ephesians 2:11-22
d.      You have access to God
                                                              i.      A believer does not hope to be in the presence of God, but is continually in His presence. Everything we do should be in worship to God because in Christ we continually live in the presence of God (Coram Deo)
1.      Ephesians 3:11-12; Hebrews 4:16
e.       You stand in grace
                                                              i.      The verb tense is clear here. We do not hope to stand in grace someday, but in fact currently stand before God, sinless. This is because we are clothed in the righteousness of Christ
1.      Hebrews 7:25; Hebrews 10:19-25
f.        You have a profound hope and joy in the glory of God
                                                              i.      As we are exposed to the glory of the nature of God we are change into His likeness.
