Romans 8:23-25


Romans 8:23-25
Our Earnest Expectations

Rom 8:23  And not only they, but ourselves also, which have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for the adoption, to wit, the redemption of our body. 
Rom 8:24  For we are saved by hope: but hope that is seen is not hope: for what a man seeth, why doth he yet hope for? 
Rom 8:25  But if we hope for that we see not, then do we with patience wait for it. 


       1.     You are not Alone in Hope – vs. 23
a.       All of creation longs for the coming of the bridegroom
                                                              i.      Romans 8:19-22 
b.      It is only the bride that waits in breathless expectation for her bridegroom
                                                              i.      Only the believer and not the unbeliever longs for eternity
1.      Revelation 19:6-9 
c.       The bride has an inner longing to be physically united with her bridegroom
                                                              i.      This is the longing for the salvation of our body and the physical union with Christ

     2.      You are Saved in Hope – vs. 24
a.       If you could now see the future glory of heaven, there would be no more earnest expectation
                                                              i.      Just like at Christmas the joy of opening the gifts is for the child who has not been peaking when he shouldn’t.

     3.      You Can Rejoice in Hope – vs. 25
a.       We are Now Cheerfully Waiting for the Coming of Christ with Eager Expectation - The Greek word for patience means to cheerfully endure. – vs. 25
                                                              i.      A believer does not long for death but at the same time does not fear it.

                                                            ii.      A believer knows that to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord.
