6:20-23
You
are Now a Slave of God
Rom 6:20 For when ye were the servants of sin, ye
were free from righteousness.
Rom 6:21 What fruit had ye then in those things
whereof ye are now ashamed? for the end of those things is death.
Rom 6:22 But now being made free from sin, and
become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end
everlasting life.
Rom 6:23 For the
wages of sin is death; but the gift
of God is eternal life through Jesus
Christ our Lord.
1. The
Unbeliever is a Slave to Sin – vs. 20
a. Those
that are slaves to sin are free from righteousness. The righteous unbeliever or
the moral atheist is a myth. There is no righteousness apart from Christ. While
an unbeliever may appear to be a good person on the outward, they are only a
whitewashed tomb that is inwardly full of nasty death.

All of man’s righteousness amounts to
nothing, his best is only useless.
1. The
Pharisees were probably the most outwardly righteous people ever, but in in
actuality were hypocrites.

3. The
Believer is Free from Sin – vs. 22
a. Now
that you are free from sin and a slave to God, because of the atonement of
Christ, wouldn’t you want to begin to produce fruits of righteousness?

4. The
Wages of Sin is Death, but Eternal Life is a Free Gift of God Given to Us by
the Sacrifice of Christ – vs. 23
a. Death
means separation from God. Whether that is a non-believer that goes to eternal
hell or believer that is in need of chastisement. If a believer lives in sin he
will suffer, in this life, the consequences of sin which is always death.
