Romans 14:10-12

Romans 14:10-12

You Will Give Account of Yourself to God

Rom 14:10  But why dost thou judge thy brother? or why dost thou set at nought thy brother? for we shall all stand before the judgment seat of Christ.

Rom 14:11  For it is written, As I live, saith the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God.

Rom 14:12  So then every one of us shall give account of himself to God.

         1.      Every Believer Will Stand Before the Judgement Seat of Christ – vs. 10

a.       Why does the weaker brother judge the other for his lack of standards? Why does the stronger brother despise the other for the convictions his brother may need in his life?

                                                              i.      Matthew 7:1-5

b.      Every Christian will one day have to stand before the Christ who saved them and answer for their actions.

                                                              i.      What kind of judgement is Paul speaking of when he says that a believer will need to stand before Christ?

1.      This judgement has nothing to do with our eternal destiny

a.       There is no condemnation for the believer

                                                                                                                                      i.      Romans 8:1

b.      Christ’s payment on the cross was complete

                                                                                                                                      i.      Hebrews 7:25

2.      This judgement is the accounting of our actions

a.       Your deeds on earth will be tested by fire

                                                                                                                                      i.      1 Corinthians 3:13-15

b.      Your deeds on earth should have a singular purpose

                                                                                                                                      i.      2 Corinthians 5:9-10

c.       All should regularly examine their own deeds

                                                                                                                                      i.      1 Peter 4:17

d.      Those that examine their deeds now will not need to be ashamed when Christ returns

                                                                                                                                      i.      1 John 2:28

         2.      Every Believer Will One Day Confess the Headship of Christ – vs. 11

a.       When controversies arise between believers you may be left wondering if you or your opponent is a believer. Therefore, we must ask ourselves regularly:

                                                              i.      Am I willing to bow my knee to the Sovereignty of Christ?

1.      John 5:22-23

ii.      Am I willing to confess the Deity of Christ?

1.      John 5:26-27

        3.      Every Believer Will One Day Have to Give an Account of Their Actions – vs. 12

a.       Your first responsibility is yourself. We all want to help others, but you will be little aide to others when your own house is not in order. We are to give account for the following things:

                                                              i.      Every word

1.      Matthew 12:36

                                                            ii.      Every talent

1.      James 3:1

                                                          iii.      Every possession

1.      Matthew 6:19-21

                                                          iv.      Every opportunity

1.      Colossians 4:5
