Acts 1:4-5

Acts 1:4-5

Ye Shall Be Baptized with the Holy Spirit

Act 1:4  And, being assembled together with them, commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which, saith he, ye have heard of me.

Act 1:5  For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence.

         1.      What does Christ Expect from His Church?

         2.      Gather Together

a.       This is the last thing that instinct would have told them to do. Don’t forget where Jesus had to find them after His resurrection. They were afraid for their lives. It was only a few days earlier that Peter couldn’t even admit to a slave girl that he knew Jesus.

a.       The last thing they wanted to do was gather and the worst place to gather would be in Jerusalem. After all it was there that they had just witnessed the Crucifixion of Christ.

                                                              i.      1 John 5:3-5

         4.      Be Unmoved

                                                              i.      Ephesians 6:10-14

         5.      Trust in the Father and Wait Patiently for His Work

a.       The promise of the Father was the Holy Spirit. While Christ had told them what was about to happen, there was no way they could have been prepared for it.

a.       1 Corinthians 15:1

          7.      Be Baptized with Water

a.       Acts 8:36-38

          8.      Be Baptized with the Holy Spirit

a.       How do we understand the Baptism of the Holy Spirit?
