Ephesians 5:6

Flee the Wrath that is to Come

Eph 5:6  Let no man deceive you with vain words: for because of these things cometh the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience. 

           1.     Do Not be Deceived with Lies About God’s Wrath

a.     There have been many people throughout history who have twisted the gospel into Antinomianism

                                               i.     The Nicolaitans

1.     Revelation 2:6 

                                             ii.     A perversion of Romans 5

1.     Romans 5:20 

                                           iii.     The context of Romans 5 is Romans 6

1.     Romans 6:1-7 

                                            iv.     Is it true that man is justified by his works?

1.     Romans 3:28; Romans 5:1 

                                             v.     Yes, it is but it is also true that it is God’s goal to transform man

1.     By the work of the Holy Spirit

a.     Romans 8:12-14 

2.     The works of the Spirit are the evidence of His indwelling in us

a.     1 John 2:4; James 2:17 

3.     The Spirit that dwells in us never gives up on us no matter how many times we fail

a.     2 Thessalonians 2:13 

           2.     God’s Wrath is Real

a.     How is God’s wrath revealed in the affairs of men?

                                               i.     His wrath is revealed in this life

1.     He makes things tough for the sinner - Proverbs 13:15 

2.     The sinner cannot hide - Numbers 32:23 

3.     He may chasten the sinner - Hebrews 12:6 

4.     He may take the sinner home to prevent him from continued sin

a.     1 Corinthians 11:27-32 

                                             ii.     His wrath will be revealed in the life to come

1.     There is such a thing as an impending judgment

a.     2 Thessalonians 1:7-9 

2.     Please escape that impending judgement - John 3:16 

3.     Please be numbered among the saints - 2 Thessalonians 1:10
