to this point Paul has been emphasizing the truth that man is broken and
without hope, apart from Christ. The temptation is to think that this could
also be referring to the Christian. While the Christian hopeless without Christ
he is not hopeless in Christ. In fact, he is more than a conquer.

or overpower the deeds of the body. He is not to just sit around waiting for
God to do something for him. Rather, he is to actively build habits of spiritual
