Be Cautious with Your Words

 

Eph 5:4  Neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor jesting, which are not convenient: but rather giving of thanks. 

        1.     Refrain From These Forms of Speech:

a.     Do not use obscenities

                                               i.     Colossians 3:8 

                                             ii.     Ephesians 4:29 

b.     Do not be caught up in foolish talking

                                               i.     Proverbs 12:23 

                                             ii.     Proverbs 15:2 

c.     Do not use suggestive humor

                                               i.     Matthew 12:33-37 

d.     Because these things are not appropriate for the believer

                                               i.     James 3:4-9 

          2.     Rather Instead Speak This:

a.     Be a people of gratefulness

                                               i.     Gratefulness is beautiful

1.     Psalm 33:1 

                                             ii.     Sing gratefulness to God

1.     Ephesians 5:19-20 

                                           iii.     Pray with gratefulness

1.     Philippians 4:6 

                                            iv.     Everything we do is to be done with a spirit of gratefulness

1.     1 Thessalonians 5:18 

                                             v.     Become a part of the great chorus of gratefulness

1.     2 Corinthians 4:14-15
